Johnny

Did you enjoy watching the the playful budgie in Me and My Pet? His name is Johnny and he is a real star.

Johnny can imitate his owner very clearly - your class will love this video of Johnny chattering away. He says phrases such "whoops-a-daisies", "pretty pretty boy" and also does an amazing imitation of a ping-pong ball!

Other entertaining clips of Johnny include:

Materials (science investigation)

The February 2008 edition of Child Education Plus magazine has an excellent pet-based science investigation. They have used a delightful story of a cat needing suitable material for a cat bed to provide a context for describing, testing and sorting materials. Featured activity from the Me and My Pet Teacher's Notes - Lists and letters

Tell the class that the puppy in Me and My Pet is looking for a home, and make a list with them of the things that the puppy wants or needs in his new home. Then the children can write a letter to the puppy telling him what they will offer. The puppy does not have a name in the program – the children can choose a name and put that in their letters. Letters can be sent to: The Puppy, c/o Spiny Software, 18 Kelvin Road, Cardiff CF23 5ET and a reply will be sent to the class on behalf of the puppy (remember to include the school address!).

'Charlie's Checklist', by Rory Lerman and Alison Bartlett, is a perfect book to support this activity.
