Reviews & comments:
"Butterflies, Bugs & other Beasties is a must for every primary classroom" Junior Education

"Butterflies, Bugs & other Beasties is an excellent cd-rom for children aged 6-10. It contains a thorough and informative reference section, complete with pictures, films and text copying facilities, on dozens of tiny creatures from the devil's coach horse to the wolf spider. Another section gives advice on looking after them, reminding you how to keep woodlice from getting waterlogged and avoiding the smell of dead crickets. And lots of delightful games test your knowledge and your IT skills as you sing with grasshoppers, collect aphids and steer bees towards nectar-rich flowers." Times Educational Supplement

"The combination of high-quality reference material and appropriate games makes this a valuable resource for nature study at Key Stage 2 and is sufficiently fun to be recommended for home use." Computer Shopper

"This is a lovely little program, perfect for bug-loving kids or for classrooms studying insects and butterflies." Childrens Software Revue (www.childrenssoftware.com)

Though it is not designed for children with special needs, the program can be successfully used with older special needs pupils. Here are extracts from an evaluation by a teacher at Harford Manor School who tested the cd-rom with a class of KS3 pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties: "My class enjoyed the program. They all have special needs and any program has to be good to keep their attention, which this program did. The graphics and video are colourful and interesting, and the use of children to speak key texts helps to keep other children's interest. The games were particularly good. They were all varied, good fun and educational. It was the games that my pupils particularly enjoyed and they learned key facts as they played them. The success of the program is evidenced by my pupils wanting to play it again after I had finished presenting it........Overall I thought that this program was excellent and would help to reinforce practical science work in the real environment and give pupils real knowledge about minibeasts in a fun way."
