Animals of the British Isles- land and freshwater is a authoritative photographic guide to British wild animals, designed to help identify animals that might be seen in the garden, or out on a walk, or even in the local high street. Find out about over 400 of Britain's most commonly seen animals, from foxes and rabbits to slugs and worms. For each animal, the cd-rom provides at least one screen of information, including notes on appearance, habitat, diet, general notes, and in many cases, a distribution map. Links from these screens connect to further information on special features. Top quality, full colour photos are used throughout - many taken specially for the program - and many samples of bird song are also included. |

The interface has been kept as simple as possible to minimise the time spent before you can start looking at the animals. And you do not need to install the program onto your computer, just insert the cd-rom and watch it run. A comprehensive index of both common and scientific names allows easy access to any animal straight away, or follow the photos until you see the animal you are looking for. As well as details and full colour photos of the 400+ animals, the cd-rom has sections on habitats, diet, defence, day and night and seasons, and also an activities section which includes ideas for activities to be done away from the computer. Learn about food chains and food webs, practice using a key to identify animals, and test your knowledge of pond animals and bird song. Find out how to keep caterpillars or frog-spawn. Finally try the challenge - can you find the 50 most common animals in your part of Britain? |

REVIEWS Daily Telegraph "I am a sucker for cute pictures of animals and so the strong visual emphasis of the Animals of the British Isles got me interested straight away. But the pictures are also accompanied by a wealth of information that should keep any amateur wildlife enthusiast amused for hours, especially if he or she is unable to get close enough to the creatures first-hand"..............."The CD-Rom is easy to use, and there are so many links on each page that time will evaporate as you continue clicking to find out more. The program also points out which species are rare or endangered; for example it explains how traffic is increasing the number of dead otters on the road."........"Animals of the British Isles is an easy-going and good-looking introduction to the life that is all around us and which we see all too rarely." MacFormat "...the disc is home to over 1000 photographs altogether, and they're consistently good quality too, making them a joy to view as well as handy to have around. But this is no mere disc of pictures- the main emphasis is on the information, so everything is backed up with lots of clear, well-written text." ........"This disc does have an educational outlook and, while it serves well to back up the National Curriculum activities at all levels, it's a great disc to have around for the whole family from a purely reference point of view. All in all, a really wild disc." PC Home "...interesting and hugely informative....easy to navigate and understand. The pictures are top quality and the games and quizzes are an excellent way of testing what the user has learnt." Minimum system requirements: Mac: Available for old versions of Mac OS but will not work on OS X or Classic. |
